#1 What This State Means

Cox’s tables do not describe a blinking power light. The power-related state they give is off: on the XER10, an off light means the device is off and powered down, with no power. On the CGM4141, off means the device is off or in Power Save Mode. Neither table gives a blinking state for the power light, and the CGM4331 page states only the solid white front light.
So a power light that is blinking is not a documented power state on these devices. The nearest documented states are the boot states: a solid amber light while the gateway powers up and boots, and then the registration steps. If your light is blinking while the gateway starts up, read it as one of those steps for your device. If the light is blinking and the gateway is not starting up, the tables do not say what it means, so check the power and contact Cox.
This page covers the XER10 and the CGM4141. The CGM4331 does not describe its power states beyond solid white. The TG1682G and CGM4140COM are not covered by these sources.
#2 The power and off states
| Device | Light | What Cox says | Cox’s action |
|---|---|---|---|
| XER10 Panoramic router | Off | Device is off and powered down; no power | Verify the power supply and outlet are secure, and the outlet is not switched |
| CGM4141 gateway | Off | Device is off, or in Power Save Mode | Verify the power supply and outlet are secure, and the outlet is not switched |
| XER10 Panoramic router | Solid amber | Initial power-up and boot | None |
| CGM4141 gateway | Solid amber | Initial power-up and boot | None |
Cox’s action for an off light is the same on both devices: check the power supply and the outlet, and make sure the outlet is not connected to a switch.
#3 Steps to Troubleshoot
- Confirm the device and the light. Read the model on the label. Note whether the light is off, solid amber, or blinking.
- If the light is off, check the power. Cox’s tables say the device is off or has no power, so check the power supply and the outlet.
- Make sure the outlet is not switched. Cox’s XER10 table says to ensure the outlet is not connected to a switch, so check that the outlet is live.
- If the CGM4141 is off, check for Power Save Mode. Cox’s CGM4141 table lists Power Save Mode alongside off, so if the device is off with power connected, that is one possible cause.
- If the light is solid amber, wait for the boot. Cox gives no action for amber during boot, so let the gateway finish starting up.
- If the blinking continues while the gateway should be starting, check the cable. Cox’s tables ask you to verify the cable connections for a connection problem, so check the coax.
- Contact Cox if the blink does not match the boot. Give the model, the light’s state, and what you have already checked.
#4 What If Scenarios
Q: My Cox gateway power light is blinking. Is the power supply failing? Cox’s tables do not describe a blinking power light, and they do not name a power-supply fault. Check the power supply and outlet, as the table says, and contact Cox if the blink is not part of the boot.
Q: My Cox gateway light is off. Is it broken? Not on Cox’s tables. Off means the device is off or has no power, on the XER10, or the device is off or in Power Save Mode, on the CGM4141. Check the power supply and the outlet first.
Q: Can the CGM4141 be off because of Power Save Mode? Cox’s CGM4141 table lists Power Save Mode alongside off, so an off light can mean the gateway is in Power Save Mode. The table does not describe how to leave Power Save Mode, so contact Cox if you cannot tell.
Q: My CGM4331 power light is blinking. Does this page apply? Cox’s CGM4331 page states only the solid white front light, so it does not describe a blinking power light. Contact Cox for the CGM4331’s other states.
Q: My router is a TG1682G or CGM4140COM. Does this page apply? Not as far as these sources show. Contact Cox for your model’s table.
